My Top 10 Filipino Movies
I’m a Filipino. So proud to be one! Here’s the list of my top 10 WORLD-CLASS Filipino movies. (In random orders) BEST MOVIES ever!

1. Anak (The Child) (2000)

Synopsis:
Josie (Vilma Santos)works as a domestic helper in Hong Kong who is forced to leave her family behind and let her husband do her part as a mother to their three children. Her employer doesn't allow her to take vacations and locks her inside the house whenever the family leaves the house. Thus,it was already late when she learned that her husband died. When she returned to the Manila after ten years, she was greeted with her children's resentment. A rebel daughter in her eldest daughter Carla (Claudine Barretto), Michael (Baron Geisler) is in deep trouble in school and the youngest, Daday (Sheila Junsay) doesn't even have a single memory of her.Josie is faced with a mother's agony of bringing back the broken pieces of her shattered family.

WHY?
--- The story is very touching. I don’t know how many times I’ve cried while watching this movie. Once you’ve watched this movie, you will appreciate more of your parents’ sacrifices and hardships just to provide everything you needed, may not be in the form of material things but in terms of unconditional love they give to us.

2. Magnifico (2003)

Synopsis:
Set in an impoverished town, a couple begin to lose hope and courage when faced with life's adversities - a daughter who suffers from cerebral palsy, a son who loses his scholarship, and a young boy named Magnifico or Ikoy, who is not so good in school. But Ikoy is gifted with a good heart and a large spirit that allows him to give joy to hopeless people in their community and magically transforms their lives for the better.

WHY?
--- I love everything about this movie. The plot of the stories, the cast… everything. Though it did not end the way we wanted (happy ending), at any rate, it gave us lessons we should always put in our heart.(Heartbreaking movie! Awww… ) But I really really love this movie (so much).

3. Sukob (2006)

Synopsis:
Sandy and Dale, both Overseas Workers in Dubai, are busy preparing for their wedding. Upon reaching her home, Sandy learns from her mother, Tessie, what happened to her friend, Helen. A short time after Helen's father died, Helen proceeded with her wedding. A few weeks after the wedding, Helen's husband dies in a plane crash. As Helen goes to the crash site, she dies in a bus accident. A few weeks later, Helen's mother suddenly disappears inside her house. Their bodies have never been recovered. Sandy proceeds with her own wedding. During the ceremony, she suffers from nosebleed and starts seeing glimpses of a ghostly flower girl. It turns out that she is not the only one who saw it. Joya, a psychic and the daughter of her husband's cousin, also saw the flower girl. Hours later, Sandy and Dale learn that the van carrying some of the secondary sponsors met an accident. When they get to the site, the bodies of the victims could not be found. Instead, they see a bridal cord. Sandy's relatives and friends disappear one by one. Things become more mysterious when Sandy receives their respective wedding photos. The people who died are headless in the photos. They realize that all the headless people in the photos are bound to die. Joya tells Sandy that she is cursed by the "sukob." Sandy is shocked - no one in her family has died recently, nor has anyone gotten married. In searching for the truth, Sandy unearths a dark family secret. Now, Sandy has to find a way to end the curse before it takes away all the people she holds dear.

WHY?
--- I’m not really fond of watching horror movies, because when I’m about to sleep and close my eyes, all I’ve imagined are those creepy scenes in that movie (awoOooo! Scary!) But this movie, I think is very very creepy.. (hahah) no, I mean, It has a very interesting story. It is something unique. It is something that depicts the Filipino culture and traditions. Truly a world-class movie! (clap clap)

4. A Very Special Love (2008)

Synopsis:
Laida Magtalas is a modern-day Belle who works hard to provide for her family while hoping that someday she will meet her prince charming and that they will live happily ever after together. That would-be prince charming is none other than "Miggy", the youngest member of the Montenegro clan — a well established family in the business world. Moony Laida's desire to finally meet Miggy leads her to apply as an Editorial Assistant at his newly launched men’s magazine, "Bachelor". In spite of the fact that a relationship with Miggy may prove to be a long shot, Laida revels working in such close proximity with the man of her dreams.

WHY?
--- What is love?...... undefined. But once you’ve watch this movie, still you can’t define love (hahah), but you will FEEL what LOVE is. I’m so “KILIG” while watching this. I mean, as if you’re experiencing being in love again. Great great movie! I heart it! (heheh)

5. You Change My Life (2009)

Synopsis:
It's been 6 months since Laida Magtalas (Sarah Geronimo) won the heart of her prince charming Miggy Montenegro (John Lloyd Cruz) and her life has been nothing but a bed of roses: she got promoted, Flippage is now in the same building where Miggy works and best of all, her hair looks better than ever. As far as Laida is concerned, nothing can wreck her perfect little world.

Miggy feels like he's on top of the world as well. He's okay with his family situation, for the first time, he's in a meaningful relationship and is determined to prove to everyone that he is indeed still a work in progress, but well on his way to becoming the new and improved, Miggy!

But unforeseen events puts a damper on Miggy and Laida's seemingly blissful lives when Miggy gets promoted and is assigned to Laguna,while Laida is offered a job in Canada. With their careers leading Laida and Miggy in separate paths, their new relationship begins to suffer under the pressures of being apart. Will Laida and Miggy be able to overcome these new challenges and keep their happily ever after? Or will they realize, a little too late, that living the dream is actually harder than attaining it?

WHY?
--- Actually, It is the sequel of the movie A Very Special Love. If you did love the first one, definitely, you will love it too.

6. Here Comes the Bride (2010)

Synopsis:
Here Comes the Bride tells the story of five different people who get their souls switched in the middle of a wedding preparation on a solar eclipse. Stefanie's (the bride) soul gets into the body of the snobby Precy, whose soul gets into the yaya, Medelyn, whose soul switches with Bien, the grandfather, whose soul enters the gay beautician's body, Toffee, whose soul enters Stefanie's body. The problem is the souls are happy where they are except for the bride, whose wedding is coming. She now has to find a way to get into their own bodies.

WHY?
--- It is the best Filipino COMEDY movie for me. Unstoppable laugh, super HAHAHAHAH! XD The actors and actresses are amazing. They did well in portraying those given roles. Indeed, they are REAL actors, imagine where did they get the courage to accept that role.(hahaha! XD) So much fun with this movie.

7. My Amnesia Girl (2010)

Synopsis:
When Apollo (John Lloyd Cruz) finds himself surrounded by friends who are beginning to settle down, he is faced with the possibility of finding his true love. It all boils down to one name: Irene. It must be fate then, when he once again sees Irene (Toni Gonzaga), his ex-girlfriend from three years ago with whom he had the best memories with. Apollo and Irene were a perfect couple, and were engaged to be married. It all ended at the altar when Apollo had a bout of cold feet and left Irene alone in the aisle.

Now, Irene pretends to have no recollection of Apollo, having acquired “amnesia” shortly after their separation. Apollo sees this as the perfect opportunity to pursue Irene again, and be able to undo all the mistakes he made in the past, by offering Irene the best memories she could ever have.

True love is difficult to resist, they learn. Just when they find themselves ready to commit to each other, the pains from the past catch up with them, challenging them to finally own up to the mistakes made and lies said, and eventually realize what it is to forgive and forget.

WHY?
--- I felt their chemistry! There are a lot of “banat” or punch lines here which made the movie more entertaining. Wee! I love it!

8. Jose Rizal (1998)

Synopsis:
Accused of treason, Dr. José Rizal (Cesar Montano) awaits trial and meets with his government-appointed counsel, Luis Taviel de Andrade (Jaime Fabregas).

The two build the case and arguments for the defense as significant events in the central figure's life prior to his incarceration unfold. Upon hearing his life story, Taviel begins to realize that the accused is not only innocent but exhibits in fact all the qualities of an ordinary man. When the mock trial unreels, Taviel is all set to act as the prime advocate for his client as Rizal himself is about to give an earth-moving speech to defend his honor and address his countrymen.

Meanwhile, the Spanish authorities have worked out the vast political machinery to ensure a guilty verdict. A revolution awaits in the wings. Blood is shed when the Katipunan, founded by Andres Bonifacio (Gardo Versoza), attacks the Spaniards.

WHY?
--- I first thought that classical movies are really boring! But this movie is an exception. Though this movie portrays historical events, still, it catches the interest of many people (I’m one of them). Superb quality of production! You will not only enjoy but you will learn as well.

9. Moments of Love (2006)

Synopsis:
Marco (Dingdong Dantes) is a photographer on vacation in an old sleepy town called Sitio Verde. While strolling around town a mysterious woman is hit by a van while trying to save his life. He visits the woman and is drawn to her granddaughter Lianne (Karylle). Marco and Lianne start to develop a relationship but recent events cause Marco to be withdrawn. He suddenly found himself haunted by a deep feeling of loneliness. His yearning leads to a telephone conversation with Divina (Iza Calzado), the daughter of a haciendero. They find place in each other, Divina lives in the past (1957) while Maco lives in the present (2006). In a sleepy town, time curved for two people to meet and part... In the end, all that was left are Moments of Love.

WHY?
--- The story is something NEW! You know, viewers always find something which is not common. And I think, this movie is one of them. Kinda classic yet modern movie (can’t further explain, hahah). Better watch it and discover the twist! (heheh)

10. Tanging Yaman (2000)

Synopsis:
Separated by distance both physical and emotional, siblings Danny (Johnny Delgado), Art (Edu Manzano) and Grace (Dina Bonnevie) come together to settle a land dispute while their mother Dolores "Loleng" Rosales (Gloria Romero) succumbs to debilitating disease. Old resentments begin to surface, spilling over to the next generation, as they cope with Loleng's sickness and the tract of land left to them by their deceased father.

WHY?
--- I love movies which involves family matters. And so I love this movie! Very touching and makes a lot of SENSE (heheh…) I love also its OST (Official Soundtrack)!

There are a lot more WORLD CLASS movies here in the Philippines, but for me, the aforementioned movies are the BEST AMONG THE BEST! Nevertheless, I’m still in search of the best movies before and wait the best movies yet to come.
